Kick-Off Meeting of AGRECOFARM Project

The inaugural meeting of the Erasmus + project AGRECOFRAM took place on 29-31 January 2024 at the University of Basilicata- Matera campus (UNIBAS) – Italy.

The meeting was organzied in presence and some partners partcipated also online via Zoom platform.

This three-year European project, which will run until November 2026, aims to overcome the main challenges of African horticultural systems, namely poor soil fertility status, nutrient deficiency, weed pressure, salinization through irrigation systems, pests and diseases.

Through research, innovation, and training on agroecological practices, it seeks to tackle climate change and environmental challenges related to biodiversity loss, natural habitat alteration, and landscape degradation in order to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and COP26 on climate change in agriculture and its contribution to sustainable development in West Africa.

The project is coordinated by the University of Basilicata (UNIBAS) in cooperation with the other project partners: European partners Isara – AgroSchool for Life-France Danube University Krems (UWK )- Austria DMTR Consulting – Italy African partners University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) – Ghana Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU)- Ghana Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB) -Nigeria University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Imo State (UAES) Nigeria Njala University (NJALA) Sierra Leone Central University of Modern Technology (CUMT) Sierra Leone.


The purpose of the Kick-off Meeting was to officially launch the AGRECOFARM Erasmus+ project, outlining its objectives, work packages, and implementation strategy. Therefore, getting a better understanding of the project background, meeting all partners, understanding roles, discussing project activities and tasks, what needs to be done, setting expectations, generating enthusiasm and inspiring confidence was very important for all participants.

Next appointment in June in Krems Austria and Lyon France.
